Jongno-gu Produces and Exhibits 'Custom Clothes' for Disabled People Uncomfortable with Ready-to-Wear
Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) is holding a 'Customized Clothing Exhibition for People with Disabilities' in the lobby on the first floor of the district office building until the 20th of this month.
Under the theme "Fashion for One, a World for All," the exhibition introduces various customized clothing made for people with disabilities and aims to spread a social atmosphere of solidarity with the vulnerable.
Last year, Jongno-gu was recognized for the achievements of the adaptive fashion production and support project "Just for You" and was selected by Seoul City as an excellent district for solidarity with the vulnerable in 2023. This year, the district continues to participate in the solidarity with the vulnerable district contest, producing clothing for people with disabilities who find ready-to-wear clothes uncomfortable.
This year's beneficiaries are 52 low-income people with disabilities selected in April through recommendations from local community centers and facilities for people with disabilities. The district completed body measurements and design production for the recipients and made 92 garments carefully reflecting preferences and disability characteristics.
In this exhibition, Jongno-gu not only introduces the clothing but also screens videos showing the production process and provides promotional materials explaining the meaning and purpose of the project. Visitors to the district office are expected to have an opportunity to think about the importance of boundary-free design for people with disabilities and its social value, thereby improving awareness of disabilities.
