Andy Kim Requests Authorities Briefing on Unidentified Drone Sightings in New Jersey, USA
Recently, in relation to the continuous appearance of unidentified drones in the New Jersey and New York City areas, U.S. Senator Andy Kim (Democrat, New Jersey) has requested an immediate briefing from U.S. authorities.
On the 12th (local time), Senator Kim announced in a press release that he, along with three other federal senators from New York and New Jersey, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, requested this briefing from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Senator Kim and others stated, "Since late November, unidentified drones have appeared multiple times during nighttime in New York City and northern New Jersey, causing concern among residents and local police. According to reports, residents say some of these drones were larger than other commercially available drones," they pointed out. They continued, "Considering drone intrusions at sensitive military facilities inside and outside the U.S. mainland over the past year, the potential safety and security risks these drones could pose in civilian areas are particularly timely. Comprehensive responses from both Congress and the administration are required to protect civilian infrastructure and safety, privacy, as well as military assets and personnel."
Earlier, U.S. media reported that unidentified large drones have been flying overhead with distinctive noise in the New York City and northern New Jersey areas for several weeks, creating a dangerous situation. However, it remains unclear who is responsible and for what purpose, leading to growing dissatisfaction among residents. The FBI confirmed that it is aware of the drone sightings in New Jersey and is cooperating with other agencies. In the U.S., drones can be used for business or recreational purposes but must comply with FAA regulations.
