Seoul Station Northern Area, First Step Toward Becoming a Global Landmark
Total Floor Area 340,000㎡, 5 Buildings with 39 Above-Ground Floors
The area around Seoul Station is poised to leap forward as a global landmark. Jung-gu District Office (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) announced on the 13th that the Seoul Station North Station Area Complex Development Project has commenced.

View original imageThe Seoul Station North Station Area Complex Development Project is a large-scale initiative to create the first major convention center and a complex shopping mall in the Gangbuk area around Bongnae-dong. On the idle railway land in Bongnae-dong, five buildings with a total floor area of approximately 340,000㎡, ranging from 6 basement levels to 39 floors above ground, will be constructed, forming a complex that integrates officetels, hotels, office facilities, cultural and assembly facilities, and retail spaces.
The district expects this development to elevate the Seoul Station area into a global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) city. In particular, the tourism, economic, and social effects of the MICE industry are anticipated to create synergy with major downtown areas and tourist spots nearby, such as Myeongdong, Euljiro, Gwanghwamun, and Dongdaemun, thereby having a significant impact on the entire local community.
The groundbreaking ceremony was hosted by Hanwha Construction and Seoul Station North Station Area Development, attended by key figures including Jung-gu Mayor Kim Gil-seong, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Seoul City Council Chairperson Choi Ho-jung, Urban Planning and Balance Committee Chairperson Kim Gil-young, City Councilor Ok Jae-eun, and about 300 citizens.
Meanwhile, last December, Jung-gu approved the new construction project for the Seoul Station North Station Area and signed an agreement for the payment of public facility contribution fees, securing approximately 54 billion KRW. The contribution fees will be allocated to the ‘Urban Planning Facility Installation Fund’ and used to expand resident convenience facilities and improve local infrastructure.

Jung-gu Mayor Kim Gil-seong stated, “This development will further strengthen the symbolism and public nature of Seoul Station and invigorate the local economy,” adding, “Jung-gu will do its utmost to establish the Seoul Station area as a global landmark.”
