Busan Gijang-gun Recruiting Participants for 'Winter Youth English Camp'... For Elementary and Middle School Students
Elementary Division 5 Nights 6 Days · Middle School Division 6 Nights 7 Days, English-Focused Residential Camp
Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) announced on the 12th that it will begin recruiting participants for the "2024 Winter Gijang Youth English Camp" starting from the 17th, in celebration of the winter vacation.
The camp is open to students from 4th to 6th grade in elementary school and 1st grade in middle school. This year, the county has expanded the target participants to include 6th graders in elementary school and middle school students, selecting a total of about 310 students: 240 elementary and 70 middle school students.
The elementary camp will be held twice from January 6 to January 18, each session lasting 5 nights and 6 days, recruiting 120 students per session. The middle school camp will take place from January 20 to January 26, lasting 6 nights and 7 days, with 70 participants.
Applications for the elementary camp can be submitted online from December 17 to 19 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and for the middle school camp from January 7 to 9, 2025 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Students from low-income families within the region can participate free of charge, while general households are charged a participation fee of 50,000 KRW for elementary and 70,000 KRW for middle school students.
Organized by Busan University of Foreign Studies, the Gijang Youth English Camp is a residential English experience program conducted with native speakers. Moving away from rote English education, it offers vivid English experiences in daily life, helping to motivate participants in learning English and boost their confidence, resulting in high satisfaction among students and parents.
Especially since the expansion to include middle school students starting last summer vacation, the camp has been able to provide students with continuous English experiential learning opportunities. Many students who participated in the camp as elementary students have rejoined as middle schoolers, confirming the high satisfaction and trust of parents and students in the Gijang Youth English Camp.
Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, "I hope many students participate in this camp and that it becomes an opportunity for self-development through improving their English skills and experiencing communication while living together." He added, "We will do our best to operate the camp so that Gijang’s young talents can grow into global talents through the English camp."
