Former Japanese announcer Ogura Tomoaki dies at 77 years old
Japanese freelance announcer Tomoaki Ogura (小倉智昭) passed away on the 9th at the age of 77. He had hosted Fuji TV's morning information program 'Tokudane (Special Report)!' for 22 years.
On the 10th, major Japanese media outlets including NHK reported that Tomoaki Ogura's condition had worsened and he died the previous day.
Diagnosed with cancer in 2016, he continued to appear on TV while battling the disease as it metastasized. According to his agency, Ogura had been undergoing treatment but his health rapidly declined earlier this month.
Born in 1947 in Akita Prefecture, Ogura joined Tokyo 12 Channel (now TV Tokyo) as an announcer in 1970 after graduating from university, where he covered horse racing broadcasts.
He became a freelance announcer in 1976 and worked on various programs and radio shows, including narrations for popular TBS quiz programs.
