Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held a ceremony to commemorate 'Volunteer Day' on the 5th at the Gwangjin-gu Office auditorium. The event was organized to honor and express gratitude to volunteers who dedicated themselves to the local community throughout the year.
Volunteer Day is designated to promote participation in volunteer activities and boost the morale of volunteers, and it is observed annually on December 5th. This year marked the 19th anniversary.
The commemorative event was held under the slogan "Your Day, The World's Hope," with about 200 attendees including volunteers and residents. Pre-event activities included making sock yarn flower keyrings and a fusion gugak (traditional Korean music) performance, which greatly enhanced the atmosphere of the ceremony.
The ceremony officially began at 2 p.m. The event opened with a video showcasing the activities carried out over the past year. This was followed by a card section titled "You Are the Hope of Gwangjin" and a congratulatory performance by the Mulpae Children's Choir.
Awards for meritorious service and badges for outstanding volunteers were also presented. Certificates of commendation were awarded to 34 volunteers who contributed to the activation of volunteer work, and 67 residents who volunteered for more than 300 hours this year received certificates and badges. The event concluded successfully with a volunteer performance using LED panels displaying the words "Day" and "Hope."
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "I would like to express my gratitude to the approximately 90,000 volunteers who quietly practiced love and service in unseen places for the local community," adding, "We will continue to support volunteers so that they can carry out their activities with pride and confidence."
