View original imageThe Korean Government Employees' Union Federation (Chairperson Seok Hyun-jung, hereinafter referred to as KGEUF) issued a statement on the 4th regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law, demanding "the impeachment of the president who trampled the Constitution and destroyed democracy, along with the strict punishment of all parties involved in the process of this martial law declaration.
In the statement, KGEUF said, "Although he promised to uphold the Constitution and lead the promotion of the people's freedom and welfare, he deployed martial law troops to the National Assembly, covered downtown Seoul with soldiers and police, causing confusion among the people and instantly dragging the democracy of the Republic of Korea to the lowest point," and pointed out, "The head of state, who bears the responsibility to protect the continuity of the nation and the Constitution, has damaged the values of the Republic of Korea himself and has now become the enemy of all the people."
KGEUF continued, "The public does not perceive the situation as one equivalent to wartime. All authorities involved in the declaration of martial law must be held accountable," adding, "Yesterday's situation in Korea is so disgraceful that it is embarrassing even to use the word 'impeachment,' which is used when high-ranking officials violate the Constitution and other laws. It is shameful for us to even recognize such a person, who thoughtlessly abuses constitutional rights such as the command of the armed forces and the veto power over legislation granted to the head of state, as a fellow 'public official.'"
