GH to Release 'Modular Housing Strategy Roadmap' by the End of This Month
Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) held a seminar on the 3rd at the Construction Hall in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to promote modular housing and will unveil the 'GH Modular Strategy Roadmap' at the end of this month.
Modular housing is built by manufacturing 70-80% of the house structure?including the basic frame, electrical wiring, plumbing, bathroom, kitchen, and ondol (underfloor heating)?in a factory and assembling it on-site.
Following the completion of Yongin Yeongdeok Happy Housing, the tallest modular housing in Korea at 13 floors, GH is currently advancing modular projects such as Seoanyang, Uijeongbu Post Office complex project, and Dongducheon Jihaeng Station integrated public rental housing.
At the seminar, GH announced the research plan for the Dongducheon Jihaeng Station high-rise modular pilot project (integrated public rental housing), which is being promoted as the tallest modular building in Korea with over 25 floors.

View original imageThe Jihaeng Station integrated public rental housing project is a complex development utilizing a public parking lot site (approximately 2,403㎡) to provide public rental housing over 25 floors for young newlyweds, along with life-cycle-based programs and family centers as living infrastructure facilities. The plan aims to secure high quality by applying standard models suitable for modular construction and factory production, minimizing on-site construction time to reduce complaints from the surrounding community.
Regarding the execution plan of the modular housing roadmap, GH plans to present specific measures to drive the growth of the modular housing industry, including the supply volume of modular housing in the 3rd New Town, selection of specialized modular housing complexes, improvement of modular ordering and planning, and the establishment of a modular pool.

Kim Se-yong, President of GH, stated, "We must respond to the demands of the era such as uniform quality, shortened construction periods, prevention of major accidents, and carbon neutrality through the activation of the modular housing industry," adding, "We will further expand GH’s role in the transition to modular housing."
