Dong-A University Chemical Engineering Department's Bae Hyun-woong Wins Excellent Poster Award at the Korean Chemical Society Fall Conference
BK21 FOUR Innovative Talent Training Project Group Master's Program
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced that Hyunwoong Bae, a master's student in the Department of Chemical Engineering and a member of the BK21 FOUR Innovative Talent Training Project Group, received the Excellent Poster Award at the 134th Fall Academic Conference of the Korean Chemical Society.
Dong-A University recently announced on the 3rd that Hyunwoong Bae, a master's student at Dong-A University, was awarded in the Organic Chemistry division at the Daegu EXCO event for his research titled "Copper-catalyzed synthesis of primary amides through reductive N?O cleavage of dioxazolones."

According to the research, conventional methods for synthesizing primary amides generally require harsh reaction conditions or the use of highly reactive dehydrating agents, and produce toxic byproducts harmful to the environment, resulting in low sustainability.
In this study, mild reaction conditions such as room temperature were used along with the plant-derived eco-friendly solvent γ-valerolactone (GVL) and a small amount (2 mol%) of low-cost, low-toxicity copper catalyst, enabling the synthesis from dioxazolones to primary amides.
The research achieved the development of a synthetic method that selectively converts only the dioxazolone moiety to primary amides in starting materials possessing highly reactive functional groups or bioactive structural frameworks.
This study is expected to provide an efficient synthesis method for primary amides in fields such as new drug development and materials chemistry.
