Gangnam-gu, Volunteer Conference on the 5th... Celebrating the Achievement of 178,000 Annual Volunteer Activities
Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will host the '2024 Gangnam-gu Volunteer Conference' at 2 p.m. on the 5th at Seongam Art Hall (Seolleung-ro 111-gil 6), organized by the Gangnam-gu Volunteer Center. This event, themed 'Drawing the Future of Gangnam through Volunteering,' is held to express gratitude to volunteers who have dedicated themselves throughout the year and to honor their efforts.

View original imageGangnam-gu ranks first in volunteer participation rate among Seoul's 25 autonomous districts, with 178,000 volunteers actively engaged annually. About 200 people, including volunteers, volunteer organizations, and service recipients, will attend this conference to share the achievements of volunteering and boost pride.
The event consists of an awards ceremony for distinguished volunteers, a screening of volunteer activity videos, and congratulatory performances. The Gangnam District Mayor's Commendation will be awarded to 44 people including Kim Gwang-mal, the Gangnam-Seocho Office of Education Superintendent's Commendation to 3 people, and the Volunteer Activity Award to 16 people, totaling 63 awardees.
Additionally, 738 volunteers who have achieved various service hours will receive certificates and badges: 9 people earning honorary badges for over 5,000 hours, 29 for 2,000 hours, 44 for 1,000 hours, 104 for 500 hours, and 552 for 200 hours. Five representatives for each time category will receive their badges on-site, while the remaining recipients will be given theirs individually.
This year, Gangnam-gu volunteers have also achieved remarkable external recognition. Lee Jeong-chan received the Presidential Commendation at the Korea Volunteer Awards. Jeon Hyeong-sun (Gaepo 4-dong Volunteer Camp) and Hyundai Mobis received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation, while Kim Young-hee, Yoo Eun-sook, Jeong Eun-jeong, and the Gaepo 4-dong Community Service Center were awarded the Seoul Mayor's Commendation, acknowledging Gangnam-gu's strong volunteer spirit.
