"I Understand Why There Were No Guests"... Groom Hired Guest Temp Workers and Skipped Paying Daily Wages and Wedding Gifts
"Not only the daily wage but even the congratulatory money was taken"
"They said there were no people, so they even mobilized a familiar sister"
A story about someone who worked as a 'wedding guest part-timer' to fill seats at a wedding, only to be scammed out of money instead of receiving a daily wage, has sparked public outrage.
On the 28th of last month, a review titled "I worked as a wedding guest part-timer but got blocked" was posted on the secondhand trading platform Danggeun. The author, Mr. A, applied for the wedding guest part-time job after seeing a job posting on the 9th of last month. The job posting was made by the groom-to-be. The groom-to-be wrote, "You need to pay a congratulatory gift to receive a meal ticket, so please bring 10,000 won, and I will refund you after the ceremony. The ceremony is at 4 PM, and guests in their 20s to late 30s are preferred. Formal attire is preferred, and I also ask for help with taking photos."
Mr. A left a comment saying he would attend with his child to watch, but on the wedding day, he forgot and went out elsewhere. After receiving a message from the groom-to-be saying, "When can you come? Some people who promised to come can't make it, so I'm worried," Mr. A hurriedly finished his outing, returned home, dressed in guest attire, and headed to the venue. At the groom-to-be’s request, "Is there anyone else you can bring along?" Mr. A even recruited a family of a known older sister. Mr. A paid the congratulatory gift of 30,000 won on behalf of the older sister’s family. He stayed until the end, participated in the commemorative photos, and throughout the wedding, took photos of the groom-to-be on his phone and sent them.
However, the congratulatory gift that was supposed to be refunded was never returned. Mr. A messaged the groom, "I paid the 30,000 won congratulatory gift on behalf of the older sister’s family. Even if you exclude my own gift, please refund the 30,000 won I paid for her," but the reply came only two days later. The groom said, "I just saw this now because I’m on my honeymoon. I will send the money tonight," but he never sent the money and even blocked Mr. A.
Mr. A said, "I went as a wedding guest part-timer, but I truly congratulated them and took photos. I rushed to prepare to arrive on time that day and sincerely celebrated. I can live without the 30,000 won, but it feels really empty," adding, "Our faces were all captured in the wedding photos that will last a lifetime, and if I were the groom, I would feel uneasy every time I see them."
