Busan Regional Veterans Office Holds Unveiling Ceremony for 6·25 War Heroic Road Sculpture
The Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs, Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Director Lee Nam-il), held an unveiling ceremony for the ‘6·25 War Hero Hero Road’ sculpture at the waterside park within Busan Children's Grand Park on the 28th.
The ceremony was attended by Lee Nam-il, Director of the Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans Association of the 7th Military Police Battalion, the Chairman of Busanjin District Council, the Deputy Commander of the 53rd Division, heads of veterans organizations, the Welfare Director of Busan Facilities Corporation, and other related officials.
The ‘6·25 War Hero Hero Road Sculpture’ was created as a bench-type photo zone measuring 3 meters wide, 2 meters high, and 50 cm deep, featuring an information board about the 7th Military Police Battalion, Busan’s patriotic heroes, and Bobo, the mascot of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, to widely inform citizens and ensure the noble sacrifice of the 7th Military Police Battalion is not forgotten.
The 7th Military Police Battalion consisted of 1,661 students from 14 schools in the Busan area who volunteered to enlist as the 7th class of the Army Military Police School during the 6·25 War. After 40 days of military training, they graduated on October 4, 1950, and were immediately assigned to various divisions and prisoner-of-war camps to carry out their duties.
They demonstrated bravery on both the front and rear lines by performing key missions such as the ‘Hungnam Evacuation Operation,’ known as the Christmas Miracle, the ‘Transport of Korean Bank Gold Bars,’ and the ‘Detention of War Prisoners and Release of Anti-Communist Prisoners.’
