AI·Deepfake 'Sex Crime Profits' to Be Confiscated and Recovered
Jung Joon-ho: "'Sex Crime Profit Forfeiture Act' Passed by National Assembly"
Jeong Jun-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Gwangju Buk-gu Gap, announced on the 29th that the "Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes," which mandates the confiscation of profits from sexual crimes such as AI and deepfake, passed the National Assembly plenary session on the 28th.
The bill, which Jeong introduced as the main proposer, was passed by the National Assembly plenary session 93 days after its introduction on August 28, following an unusually swift discussion process.
The rapid passage of the amendment was due to the persuasive logic of Representative Jeong that economic sanctions must accompany criminal punishment to eradicate new types of sexual violence crimes.
The amendment includes provisions that require the mandatory confiscation and seizure of criminal proceeds in addition to existing criminal penalties for the production and distribution of deepfake false videos, video recordings such as those made by cameras, and threats using videos.
Jeong said, "This amendment is especially meaningful as it is the first bill I have introduced to pass the National Assembly," adding, "I will continue to devote myself to creating various bills that can restore public welfare and realize economic justice."
