Yangju City Art Creation Studio Screens Documentary Film '1923 Kanto Massacre Director's Cut'
Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 28th that the documentary film "1923 Kanto Massacre Director's Cut" will be screened at the "Yangju City Art Creation Studio" in the city, having been selected for the "DMZ Community Screening Support Project" hosted by the DMZ Documentary Film Festival.
The "DMZ Community Screening" is a support project by the DMZ Documentary Film Festival, a leading documentary international film festival in Asia, aimed at overcoming the limited theater-centered screening culture and spreading the positive influence and humanistic value of documentaries.
The film to be screened on December 13 is the 2024 work "1923 Kanto Massacre" directed by Kim Tae-young and Choi Kyu-seok, revisiting testimonies and records to reveal the truth 101 years after the massacre of Koreans was denied.
Notably, "1923 Kanto Massacre" won the Best Documentary Director Award at the 5th Nawada International Film Festival in India last October.
The city explained that there will be a "Conversation with Director Choi Kyu-seok" after the screening.
The community screening will be free of charge, and citizens who wish to participate can apply by phone or email starting from the 27th.
However, if prior applications are not full, on-site first-come, first-served viewing is also possible.
For participation applications and other detailed information, inquiries can be made to the "Yangju City Art Creation Studio" or via email.
A Yangju City official said, "'Yangju City Art Creation Studio' operates various programs for cultural enjoyment of citizens as well as supporting artists' creation, and we hope for active participation in this newly attempted community screening."
