Pukyong National University Wins ‘Best Award’ at Engineering Festival Creative Comprehensive Design Competition
National Competition with 73 Universities Participating, Honored with Grand Prize and Special Award
Student teams from the National Pukyong National University received the Grand Prize and a Special Award at the 2024 Engineering Festival Creative Comprehensive Design Competition.
Among 146 teams from 73 universities nationwide participating in this competition, the National Pukyong National University Wright Brothers team (student representative Minjae Kim, supervising professor Uicheol Noh) won the Grand Prize (Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award) with their project "Traffic Light Color Guide Easily Seen by Color Vision Deficiency Drivers" and received a prize of 4 million KRW.
The award-winning project was highly evaluated for bringing traffic signal information inside the vehicle based on learned traffic light data, displaying simple symbol images on the HUD, and delivering signals via voice, enabling drivers with color vision deficiency to recognize traffic lights quickly and accurately. This project was recognized for significantly improving convenience and safety for color vision deficiency drivers, potentially reducing traffic accident rates dramatically.
Additionally, the National Pukyong National University ACE team (student representative Dongkyung Lee) received a Special Award for their project "Development of Multi-SLAM and Navigation for Indoor Autonomous Robots in Multi-Story Buildings."
The 2024 Engineering Festival Creative Comprehensive Design Competition was held at the Monaco Space Media Hall in Seoul on the 15th, where 13 finalist projects presented their work. Following this, from the 19th to the 20th, the final results were announced on the 22nd after online voting by a national public jury and engineering student juries nationwide.
National Pukyong National University, under the supervision of the Center for Engineering Education Innovation (Director Minyoung Son), selected and supported excellent items through the 2024 Capstone Design Support Project. Two representative teams selected through the university’s own competition, the 2024 Hanmir Capstone Design Competition, participated in this Creative Comprehensive Design Competition and achieved outstanding results.

At the 2024 Engineering Education Innovation Merit Awards held alongside this event, Kyungjin Pi, a full-time research professor at the National Pukyong National University Center for Engineering Education Innovation, was selected as the Grand Prize recipient for the "Engineering Education Innovation Merit Award" and received a commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy.
