Hosted by the Ministry of Education and LG Corporation, the contest was held on the 23rd at LG Science Park, with a total of 52 representatives from 17 city and provincial offices of education participating (27 elementary students and 25 middle school students).
In this contest, five students selected from the Gyeonggi Province competition in September showcased their bilingual speaking skills by first presenting in Korean on topics such as differences in school meal culture and career plans, followed by speaking in their parents' native languages (Russian, Burmese, Uzbek, Chinese, Thai).
As a result of the contest, in the elementary division, student Kim Svetlana (Wonil Elementary School, Grade 4) won the Minister of Education Award Gold Prize, and student Kim Cheon-seong (Jeonggyo Elementary School, Grade 6) won the Bronze Prize. In the middle school division, student Kim Dong-rim (Wongok High School, Grade 3) won the Minister of Education Award Gold Prize, and student Yoo Seubaek (Cheongdam High School, Grade 2) won the Silver Prize. Student Yoon Yoon (Gwansan Middle School, Grade 3) received the President’s Award from the National Institute for Lifelong Education, earning the honor of all participating students receiving awards.
Hyun Gye-myeong, Director of the Convergence Education Policy Division at the Provincial Office of Education, said, “About 28% of multicultural students nationwide attend school in Gyeonggi Province. Gyeonggi Province will take the lead in supporting multicultural students to grow into global talents by leveraging their bilingual strengths.”
