Hyundai Rotem President Lee Yong-bae and Jorge Zapata, head of the Peruvian Armory, signed the "Comprehensive Ground Equipment Cooperation Agreement" in the presence of President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea and President Dina Boluarte of Peru, who were visiting Peru to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
The agreement includes the total volume and scale of the ground weapons supply project for the Peruvian Army Armory. Subsequent execution contracts will specify detailed matters such as delivery schedules, detailed specifications, training, and maintenance conditions.
Hyundai Rotem entered the Latin American market for the first time by winning the contract to supply wheeled armored vehicles ordered by the Peruvian Armory in May. With this agreement, it will supply the entire range of ground weapon systems, including the K2 tank, its variant tanks, and follow-up quantities of wheeled armored vehicles.
The wheeled armored vehicles, being exported to Peru for the first time, are infantry fighting vehicles capable of rapid troop transport in various battlefield environments based on excellent mobility. Hyundai Rotem began developing wheeled armored vehicles independently in 2003 and has delivered over 500 units to the army to date. Last year, it delivered wheeled command post vehicles equipped with network-based combat command system equipment to the army.
Hyundai Rotem and the Peruvian Armory plan to build a solid cooperative relationship through this agreement to ensure the export contracts for the K2 tank and wheeled armored vehicles are successfully concluded. Hyundai Rotem aims to firmly establish the competitiveness of 'K-Defense' in the Latin American market by exporting tanks, wheeled armored vehicles, and related vehicles.
