4173 License Revocations for Drunk Driving in Gyeongbuk This Year... 623 Repeat Offenders with 2 or More Incidents
The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency (Chief Kim Cheol-moon) announced on the 15th that as of the end of October this year, 4,173 residents of Gyeongbuk had their driver's licenses revoked due to drunk driving, and among them, 623 were repeat offenders with two or more offenses.
Among those whose licenses were revoked due to drunk driving, 15% have a history of license revocation for drunk driving in the past.
According to the revised Road Traffic Act effective from October 25, going forward, individuals caught drunk driving two or more times within five years must install an 'Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device' to obtain a driver's license. Repeat drunk drivers who operate a vehicle without installing the device will be punished as if driving without a license. They face imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 3 million won.
