LS Electric and LS Cable Win 'CES Innovation Award' for Future Superconducting Breakthrough Technology
Superconducting Current Limiter and Cable Integration: World's First Data Center Solution, etc.
Next-generation superconducting innovation solution jointly developed by LS Electric and LS Cable & System won the 'CES Innovation Award.' The CES Innovation Award is given by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which hosts the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition, 'CES 2025,' held in Las Vegas, USA, next January, recognizing innovative technologies and products.
On the 15th, LS Electric announced that its 'HyperGrid NX,' developed together with LS Cable & System, received awards in two categories?Human Security and Smart City?at the CES Innovation Awards 2025, revealed on the 14th (local time).
HyperGrid NX is a power supply system for data centers (IDC) that combines LS Electric’s superconducting current limiter and LS Cable & System’s superconducting cable.
LS Electric’s superconducting current limiter instantly reduces fault currents occurring during power system accidents. It is equipment that prevents damage to power facilities, electrical fires, and blackout spread, making it essential for protecting large-scale advanced industrial facilities.
LS Cable & System’s superconducting cable, commercialized worldwide for the first time in 2019, maximizes transmission efficiency by utilizing the superconducting phenomenon where electrical resistance disappears at low temperatures. When power expansion is needed for IDC construction, transmission capacity can be increased more than fivefold simply by replacing the cable.

It can smoothly supply power without building additional substations in urban areas. Since transformers are not required, it can be designed to be about one-tenth the size of conventional substations. It also does not generate electromagnetic waves, securing both economic efficiency and eco-friendliness.
Both companies see HyperGrid NX emerging as a stable solution to meet the rapidly increasing power demand of data centers. Leveraging economic feasibility, community acceptance, and power stability, they are accelerating their market penetration into domestic and international commercial data centers and AI training data center markets.
An LS Electric official said, "The superconducting solution born from the synergy of our future innovative technologies will become a killer solution for the LS Group. We will use this award as an opportunity to accelerate our global market entry by emphasizing overwhelming competitiveness in economic feasibility, community acceptance, and power stability."
