Goal to Spread 'Execution-Oriented Challenge Culture'
Attention-Grabbing Session at Technology Competition Selecting Outstanding Projects
POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Dong-ryeol) actively took steps to secure a super-gap competitiveness by holding the ‘Gwangyang Steelworks Tech Day’ event on the 12th at Baegun Art Hall in Geumho-dong, Gwangyang City, aimed at sharing new technology achievements and spreading a culture of challenge toward technology development.
This Gwangyang Steelworks Tech Day was conducted with the goal of sharing achievements of creative and challenging technology development activities and spreading a ‘challenge culture from an execution perspective’ through communication.

View original imageIn particular, the event attracted attention by featuring a technology demonstration session where participants could experience various new technologies from POSCO Group companies such as POSCO DX and RIST and gain insights, along with a competition session sharing the technological achievements of on-site employees at Gwangyang Steelworks and selecting outstanding projects.
In the technology demonstration session, there was a space to experience five new technologies including △POSCO-style Chat GPT application cases and △3D spatial object recognition technology, as well as the introduction of AI·Robot convergence new technologies that can be directly utilized on-site, such as △robot technology, △logistics optimization algorithms, and △worker recognition technology.
In the competition session, six projects were presented, including △improving plating profitability using AI technology, △enhancing productivity through vibration reduction technology development, and △developing power reduction technology, providing an opportunity to share technologies with participants.
The projects were evaluated based on △linkage with company strategy, △quality of project goals, △project execution process, and △project outcomes. Among them, Section Chief Seo Soo-min of the Energy Department, who achieved power savings by improving the production and supply process of energy produced at Gwangyang Steelworks, received the grand prize.
The excellence awards were given to Section Chief Moon Seung-hwan of the Cold Rolling Department, who presented on optimizing the hot rolling process and product quality, and Assistant Manager Son Tae-hyuk, who presented on improving profitability through securing competitiveness of thick plates.
Director Lee Dong-ryeol of Gwangyang Steelworks said, “I express my gratitude to the employees who actively participated in the conference exchanging technology projects and achievements that contributed to the development of Gwangyang Steelworks throughout this year,” and added, “Let us take the lead in spreading a culture of challenging improvement from an execution perspective to lead the global market as an eco-friendly mobility specialized steelworks.”
