‘Sea Garden of Recovery and Coexistence’ Vision
Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) announced on the 12th that the basic plan for the ‘Mundong Living Area Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project’ was conditionally approved after review by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ Deliberation and Coordination Committee.
The Mundong Living Area Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project is a key county initiative aimed at improving the living and economic environment of the Mundong Living Area (around Jungdong Port in Ilgwang-eup) and revitalizing the fishing village economy through the settlement of new personnel in the fishing village. The project was finalized through a 2023 Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries public contest, with a total budget of 10 billion KRW, including 7 billion KRW in national funds, to be invested by 2026.
The county completed the establishment of the ‘Spatial Environment Master Plan,’ which contains an integrated basic plan with the anchor organizations Local by Local Co., Ltd. and Cultural Arts Plan B (anchor organizations). On October 30, the basic plan received conditional approval through the Deliberation and Coordination Committee, giving momentum to the project’s progress.

Additionally, the anchor organizations will hold a forum in Mundong Village on the 25th and 26th to review the project’s progress and share the direction of the basic plan.
On the first day, the 25th, anchor organizations from Hujin Port in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do, which is also implementing this project, and the Mundong Living Area anchor organization will participate to share the project progress and key contents of the basic plan. On the second day, a roundtable discussion among anchor organizations, a local tourism idea hackathon, and a linker organization performance sharing meeting will be held.
Jeong Jong-bok, Governor of Gijang-gun, said, “We will create a vibrant Mundong Living Area where a sustainable residential environment and fishing village identity harmonize,” and added, “We ask for residents’ interest and active cooperation for the successful implementation of the project.”
