Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 12th that it will conduct a special crackdown on the unauthorized movement of pine trees to prevent the artificial spread of pine wilt disease and to establish a sound distribution and handling order.

View original imageThe city plans to organize inspection teams by district for 14 days from the 18th to December 1st to carry out the special crackdown on unauthorized movement of pine trees.
The inspection targets about 70 locations within the jurisdiction, including companies handling pine trees and farms using firewood. The inspection teams will visit to check the handling and storage quantities of pine logs, verify documents related to the production and distribution of pine trees, and confirm whether ledgers are maintained.
If pine trees are moved without authorization, under the "Special Act on the Control of Pine Wilt Disease," offenders may face imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won. Additionally, companies handling pine trees that fail to prepare or maintain documents related to the production and distribution of pine trees may be subject to a fine of up to 2 million won.
