The Overseas Fisheries Cooperation Center at Pukyong National University (Director Kim Young-mok) held a completion ceremony for the UN FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) invited international training program, ‘PSMA Global Training Program,’ on the 8th at the Miraegwan CEO Hall.
Twenty-two public officials working in fisheries-related fields from 11 developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region who participated in this international training program completed the three-week training schedule and graduated on this day.
Supported by the UN FAO and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, this international training program was established as a global capacity-building program to support the implementation of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA) aimed at preventing and eradicating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Program participants completed training courses including theoretical lectures, field studies, and discussions provided by Pukyong National University, the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service, the National Institute of Fisheries Science, the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, and the Busan Port Authority.
Director Kim Young-mok stated, “Through this international training, I hope it will serve as an opportunity to expand cooperation to eradicate IUU fishing at both national and global levels and to strengthen related systems such as education and monitoring.”
