Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held the 1st ‘Youth Challenge Support Project Performance Sharing Meeting’ on the 6th at Big Bear 8 in the Sejong University AI Center.

The Youth Challenge Support Project is a program that Gwangjin-gu launched for the first time this year after being selected in March for a public contest hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Under the subtitle ‘Urban樂 (The Joy of Challenging and Trying),’ it provides customized programs free of charge to unemployed youth (aged 19?39) to boost their confidence and strengthen their employment capabilities, receiving great responses from many young people who needed employment support.

Accordingly, the district organized this performance sharing meeting, hosted by the Seoul Youth Center Gwangjin, to listen to the achievements so far, communicate with the youth, and conclude the year-long journey.

About 80 people attended the sharing meeting, including 56 program participants and related institution officials. The event proceeded with an annual activity performance report, followed by ▲ viewing activity videos ▲ presentation of participation reviews ▲ awarding of certificates ▲ and recreation.

A total of 90 youths participated in this year’s Youth Challenge Support Project, with 77 successfully completing the program, and among them, 12 succeeded in finding employment. According to a survey conducted on the completers, responses indicating an increase in ‘possibility of communication and exchange with others’ rose by 23.5% compared to before participation.

In particular, opinions that ‘favorability toward government and local government youth policies’ increased by 63%, showing a high level of satisfaction among the youth who participated in the project.

One youth who succeeded in finding employment through the program shared, “I was able to form healthy relationships with participants, acquire various employment information, and relieve the anxiety and isolation I usually felt due to unemployment.”

The district plans to expand the number of participants in next year’s Youth Challenge Support Project to 120 and further improve and promote the program by reflecting the diverse opinions of the youth.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, who attended the performance sharing meeting, introduced the direct text message service from the mayor’s office and how to use Gwangjin-gu, saying, “I hope young people will feel free to talk about policies they think are necessary anytime through the button called Gwangjin-gu.”

He also said, “Going forward, Gwangjin-gu will always wait for the assignments given by the youth with a learning attitude, and will always be by their side to help them explore their career paths and succeed in standing on their own.”

Gwangjin-gu was recognized for its active efforts to incorporate the voices of local youth into district administration through initiatives such as launching an online youth portal and youth policy contests, and achieved the honor of winning the Youth-Friendly Governance Award ‘Communication Award’ for two consecutive years, including last year.
