First Cement Company to Establish ESG Committee in 2022
Sampyo Cement announced on the 31st that it has achieved an 'Integrated A Grade' by receiving an A grade or higher in all categories for two consecutive years in the '2024 ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Evaluation' conducted by the Korea Corporate Governance Service (KCGS).
The Korea Corporate Governance Service evaluates the sustainability management level of domestic listed companies annually. The Integrated A Grade is awarded to companies demonstrating high-level ESG management across all areas of environment, social, and governance.
In this evaluation, Sampyo Cement received an A grade or higher in all categories for the second consecutive year following last year. Notably, it earned the highest grade of A+ in the social category. Sampyo Cement explained, "This is the result of introducing various policies to manage risks and establish safe workplaces based on our ESG strategic goals."
In the environmental category, the company received an A grade. Sampyo Cement is pursuing the goal of '2050 Carbon Neutrality' by applying technologies and investing in facilities to improve eco-friendly processes. Additionally, it carries out various environmental activities such as operating a dedicated vessel for Jeju Port to prevent cement dust, restoring habitats of endangered species, and adopting companion beaches.
In the governance category, Sampyo Cement was once again recognized for establishing exemplary governance and received an A grade. In 2022, it became the first cement company to establish an ESG Committee within its board of directors. To establish transparent and sound governance, the Nomination Committee for Outside Directors and the Internal Transactions Committee are composed entirely of outside directors.
