Mapo-gu Hosts Leaf Challenge Cup with Gymnastics Fairy Son Yeon-jae
November 2nd and 3rd at Mapo Community Sports Center: Competitions for Kindergarten, Elementary, and Adult Divisions
Masterclass with Son Yeon-jae personally teaching rhythmic gymnastics basics and techniques
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will hold the "2024 Mapo-gu Mayor's Leaf Challenge Cup with Son Yeon-jae" on November 2nd and 3rd at the Mapo-gu Sports Center in collaboration with the Mapo-gu Sports Council.
This competition is hosted by Leaf Studio, operated by former South Korean national rhythmic gymnastics athlete Son Yeon-jae, and Next Utopia, aiming to expand the base of rhythmic gymnastics in South Korea and discover promising rhythmic gymnastics talents.
About 300 participants, including kindergarten, elementary junior athletes, and adult amateur athletes from across the country, will showcase their gymnastics skills they have honed over time.
Additionally, a program involving former national representative Son Yeon-jae will be held to improve the athletes' skills and increase local residents' understanding and interest in rhythmic gymnastics.
On the first day of the competition, November 2nd, kindergarten and elementary division matches and a gala show will take place. On the second day, November 3rd, adult division matches, a gala show, and a master class where Son Yeon-jae will personally teach the basics and techniques of rhythmic gymnastics will be held.
The event is free to attend, and anyone who loves rhythmic gymnastics can come and enjoy the competition.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "It is very meaningful to hold a gymnastics competition in Mapo-gu with former national representative Son Yeon-jae," adding, "I hope many talents who will lead the future of South Korean rhythmic gymnastics will emerge from this competition."
