[Concall] Samsung SDI Builds LFP Motherline in Ulsan... "Targeting US Market"
Samsung SDI announced that it will establish an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery mother line in Ulsan, which is gaining popularity due to its high price competitiveness. A "mother line" refers to a factory where both pilot production and mass production verification of products applying next-generation design and process technologies can be conducted.
At the Q3 earnings conference call held on the 30th, Samsung SDI stated, "Samsung SDI has been continuously preparing to introduce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries to expand the growth potential of the energy storage system (ESS) business. Recently, after completing the verification of large-format LFP cells and finalizing products, equipment, and concepts, we began establishing the mother line at the Ulsan plant last month."
They added, "We are aiming for mass production and global project supply within 2026. Samsung SDI's LFP batteries will leverage the advantages of prismatic form factors to implement the industry's largest cell size, enhancing cost competitiveness. At the same time, we plan to secure top-level energy density and long-life characteristics by applying differentiated manufacturing methods and cell designs."
