Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 29th that it held the "17th Regular General Meeting of the Gyeonggi Province Mayors and County Governors Council for the Development Restriction Zone Policy Advancement" on the 28th to discuss improvements to the development restriction zone system and promote policy development.
The meeting, held at the Chusa Museum in Gwacheon City, was attended by the heads and deputy heads of seven cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province with development restriction zones (Uijeongbu, Gwacheon, Hanam, Uiwang, Hwaseong, Ansan, Anyang).
Under the chairmanship of Mayor Kim Dong-geun, who serves as the 5th council chairman, reports and discussions were held on proposals to improve the development restriction zone system, including "Relaxation of relocation restrictions for manufacturing plants within the development restriction zone (Hanam City)" and "Permission to install park golf courses within the development restriction zone (Uiwang, Hanam, Bucheon Cities)." The proposals were adopted either as originally proposed or with modifications and will be recommended to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport through Gyeonggi Province.
Furthermore, there was a strong consensus among members on the necessity of legal amendments for the adopted proposals and other pending issues that have not yet been revised. Accordingly, council members (mayors and county governors) decided to actively pursue improvements to the development restriction zone system through direct meetings with the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and relevant parliamentary committees.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, "We will continue to make efforts and submit recommendations to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the National Assembly to improve the unreasonable development restriction zone system that causes infringement on residents' property rights."
