UN Security Council to Convene Meeting on North Korean Troop Deployment to Russia on the 30th
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has convened a meeting on the 30th (local time) regarding suspicions of North Korean troops being dispatched to Russia.
According to Sputnik News and others on the 28th, Switzerland, the chair country of the Security Council this month, announced the convening of the Security Council meeting after 3 p.m. on the 30th. The Swiss Mission to the UN explained, "Ukraine requested the meeting with the support of the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Slovenia, and Malta."
The meeting is expected to discuss various concerns surrounding the military closeness between North Korea and Russia. Western countries, including the United States, are wary that North Korea's involvement could prolong the war in Ukraine or escalate it into a confrontation between Western and authoritarian states. There are also concerns that North Korea might receive advanced military technology from Russia in exchange for dispatching troops.
