The Local Governments Council for Inter-Korean Peace Cooperation Holds the '2024 Peace Forum'
The Local Government Council for Inter-Korean Peace and Cooperation (Chairman Kim Kyung-il, Mayor of Paju) announced on the 25th that it will hold the "2024 Peace Forum" on November 1st under the theme "Climate Peace and the Challenges of Sustainable Cooperation on the Korean Peninsula."
The forum, held in the 1st Conference Room of the National Assembly Members' Office Building, will feature former Minister of Unification and National Assembly member Lee In-young, former Minister of Justice and Gyeonggi Province Climate Ambassador Kang Geum-sil, along with domestic and international experts. They will engage in in-depth discussions on concrete climate and environmental cooperation measures that North and South Korea can jointly address.
In the first part, National Assembly members Lee In-young and Wi Seong-rak, and Professor Ahn Byung-jin of Kyung Hee University’s Future Civilization Institute will participate as keynote speakers, presenting diverse opinions on inter-Korean climate cooperation strategies.
The second part will be a session with experts from related organizations and heads of member cities of the Local Government Council for Inter-Korean Peace and Cooperation, discussing "International Cooperation in the Era of Climate Crisis and Prospects for Inter-Korean Exchange" and exploring ways for local governments to lead inter-Korean exchange and cooperation.
Kim Kyung-il, Chairman of the Local Government Council for Inter-Korean Peace and Cooperation, emphasized that climate cooperation is a new opportunity for communication and exchange between North and South Korea, stating, "Under the agenda of the climate crisis, we hope that North and South Korea will once again build a foundation for harmony and cooperation."

Established officially in 2021 to discover and promote joint inter-Korean exchange and cooperation projects among local governments, the Local Government Council for Inter-Korean Peace and Cooperation currently includes 16 metropolitan and basic local governments as participants.
