KOSPI Weakens Intraday on Net Selling by Foreigners and Institutions... KOSDAQ Also Down Over 2%
The KOSPI index is showing weakness during the session, pressured by strong net selling from foreigners and institutions.
As of 10 a.m. on the 22nd, the KOSPI index is trading at 2,570.23, down 1.33% from the previous day.
By investor type, institutions and foreigners have net sold 203.8 billion KRW and 173.1 billion KRW respectively, while individuals have net bought 369.7 billion KRW. In the futures market, foreigners are net sellers of 483.1 billion KRW, whereas institutions and individuals are net buyers of 375.9 billion KRW and 108.7 billion KRW respectively.
The New York stock market closed mixed the previous day amid a pause ahead of major earnings announcements from big tech and other key companies, influenced by a sharp rise in the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield and profit-taking. The KOSPI index started slightly lower today and is extending its losses under pressure from net selling by foreigners and institutions.
Most sectors are showing weakness. The medical precision sector fell 2.67%, chemicals -2.38%, steel and metals -2.24%, services -1.8%, food and beverages -1.5%, electrical and electronics -1.52%, manufacturing -1.54%, pharmaceuticals -1.74%, transportation and warehousing -1.43%, construction -1.43%, textiles and apparel -1.37%, and transportation equipment -1.12%. In contrast, insurance, electric and gas utilities, and telecommunications sectors are showing strength.
Most of the top market capitalization stocks are also weak. Samsung Electronics is down 1.19%, LG Energy Solution -2.95%, Samsung Biologics -1.37%, Hyundai Motor -1.27%, Celltrion -1.41%, Kia -2.74%, KB Financial Group -0.53%, Shinhan Financial Group -0.18%, and NAVER -2.38%. Meanwhile, SK Hynix is up 0.1%.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index is down over 2%. The KOSDAQ index is trading at 744.04, down 2.09% from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners have net sold 78.6 billion KRW and 141.3 billion KRW respectively, while individuals have net bought 227.6 billion KRW.
Most of the top market capitalization stocks on the KOSDAQ are also weak. Alteogen is down 1.38%, EcoPro BM -4.12%, EcoPro -3.98%, HLB -1.41%, Classys -7.92%, Enchem -3.28%, Hugel -1.75%, Samchundang Pharm -0.6%, and Lino Industrial -2.2%. In contrast, Rigachem Bio is up 3.06%.

Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,381.1 won, up 2.3 won from the previous day.
