An active-duty police officer who embezzled several hundred million won worth of seized items secured during an investigation has been arrested.
Nam Cheon-gyu, the warrant judge at the Seoul Eastern District Court, issued an arrest warrant on the 17th for Sergeant Jeong Mo, a detective in the investigation division of the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, on suspicion of theft, stating there is a risk of flight.
Jeong, who was in charge of managing seized items, is suspected of repeatedly embezzling cash and other items seized from gambling operations between June and October. The value of the seized items embezzled by Jeong was revealed to be as high as 300 million won.
