Dongmyeong University Promotes Establishment of Scholarship Foundation Supporting Descendants of UN Forces in the Korean War

Dongmyung University is promoting the establishment of the ‘UN Scholarship Foundation (UNSF)’ for descendants of UN soldiers who participated in the Korean War.
On the 17th, Jeon Ho-hwan, president of Dongmyung University, stated, “If descendants of Korean War veterans from overseas enroll in Dongmyung University’s Busan International College (BIC), we will waive all tuition fees and establish the UNSF to provide scholarship support.”
President Jeon further explained the purpose of the foundation, saying, “Providing educational opportunities to descendants of UN soldiers is our moral duty and the highest form of honoring the veterans.”
The UNSF, to be established in New York in September 2025, will have co-chairpersons consisting of President Jeon Ho-hwan and the chairman of the American Veterans Association.
Additionally, representatives of veterans from 22 UN member countries will be appointed as directors of the UNSF. Along with scholarship support, the UNSF plans to assist descendants of UN veterans studying abroad in obtaining permanent residency to settle in Korea through skilled immigration.
A UN university program will also be introduced to support their education. The funds required for the UNSF will be raised through public fundraising. To facilitate fundraising, Dongmyung University will operate lifelong education programs with international demand and hold fundraising events.
At the UNSF establishment preparatory committee meeting held at Dongmyung University that day, Lee Hak-chun, honorary professor at Dong-A University, was appointed as the Secretary-General, Ed Lee (Lee Eung-cheol) as the US Secretary-General, and Son Bu-kyung as the Secretary-General of the Secretariat.
Professor Lee Hak-chun said, “We will introduce the UN university program at BIC to train descendants of UN veterans as experts in international procurement and trade.”
Ed Lee, a Korean American who served in the Afghan War, said, “We will create a network among successful descendants of veterans in the US to lay the foundation for the UNSF.”

BIC, where descendants of UN veterans will enroll, is an international college specializing in foreign students established by Dongmyung University in 2024 to become a global education hub. Currently, 615 students from 15 countries are enrolled.
