The voter turnout for the October 16 by-elections to elect four basic local government heads recorded 42.3% as of 1 p.m. This surpasses the turnout rate of the October 11 Seoul Gangseo District Office by-election held a year ago.
The National Election Commission announced that as of 1 p.m. on the 16th, out of 323,208 eligible voters nationwide in the four ongoing by-elections, 136,768 had cast their votes. The turnout rate announced from 1 p.m. includes the combined results of early voting and absentee voting.
This turnout rate is higher than the 35.9% recorded at the same time during last year's Seoul Gangseo District Office by-election.
The voter turnout for the Busan Geumjeong District Office by-election was 34.4%, and for the Incheon Ganghwa County Governor by-election, it was 47.7%. The Jeonnam Yeonggwang County Governor re-election turnout was 60.6%, and the Jeonnam Gokseong County Governor re-election turnout was 56.0%.
Earlier, early voting rates were 20.63% in Geumjeong District, 27.90% in Ganghwa County, 43.06% in Yeonggwang County, and 41.44% in Gokseong County.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education by-election recorded a 14.9% turnout as of 1 p.m. Out of 8,321,972 eligible voters, 1,238,026 had voted. Early voting held over the previous two days showed a relatively low turnout of 8.28%.

Since this election is a by-election, voting will continue until 8 p.m. Voter polling station locations can be confirmed through the voting guide delivered to each household, the local government’s voter list viewing system, or the polling station finder service on the National Election Commission’s website (nec.go.kr).
