Sonid Establishes Game Development Division... "Full-Scale Entry into Game Business with ToByte"
Sonid, a KOSDAQ-listed company, announced on the 15th that it plans to establish a 'Game Development Division' to fully enter the game business. It also plans to secure competitiveness in game development by building a cooperative system with the game development studio 'Pentapeak Studios,' established by TwoByte.
Sonid stated, "The newly appointed CEO of TwoByte, Ham Young-cheol, has been building the game development studio since 2021, and to collaborate with this studio, we decided to establish the Game Development Division. We also plan to actively pursue acquisitions of game development companies to strengthen our capabilities in the future."
On the 11th, Sonid appointed Ham Young-cheol as CEO through a shareholders' meeting and board of directors meeting, declaring its entry into the game and IT sectors. TwoByte currently holds management rights of Sonid and will secure the position of the largest shareholder upon payment of the capital increase funds in November.
Pentapeak Studios, which will establish a cooperative system with Sonid, was founded by TwoByte in 2021 for in-house game development and is currently developing games for mobile and PC. Pentapeak Studios is led by veteran leaders with experience at Smilegate RPG, Wemade, and LINE Games. Instead of mass-produced MMORPG genres facing growth limits, the studio aims to develop mobile puzzle games and PC strategy games targeting global markets.
Representative games under development by Pentapeak Studios include the mobile puzzle and decoration genre game 'PawPop Match' and the PC sci-fi strategy game 'Space Gears,' which features Mars and mechs as themes.
'PawPop Match' is a high-quality puzzle and decoration mobile game boasting excellent artwork and puzzle play with strong impact. It differentiates itself with unique social content that promotes player interaction. It was developed targeting 'Royal Match,' a game launched globally by a Turkish startup currently generating over 1 trillion KRW in annual revenue. Development began in March 2022, with test launches in Canada and Indonesia in July 2024. Continuous improvements are planned, with a global launch scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
'Space Gears' is a sci-fi real-time strategy game themed around Mars and mechs, developed for release on the STEAM PC game platform. Development started in August 2022, and the first playtest was completed at the 2023 Steam demo event (Steam Next Fest). It ranked 5th among 136 games submitted in the multiplayer genre, with nearly 20,000 wishlists. Space Gears aims for an early access release on Steam in the fourth quarter of next year.
