View original imagePresident Yoon Suk-yeol, who visited Laos to attend the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit, held a summit meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Norman Albanese in Vientiane on the 10th (local time) and stated, "I hope that South Korea and Australia will continue to deepen communication and cooperation based on the 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' relationship."
Prime Minister Albanese praised President Yoon's leadership for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and said that South Korea and Australia, allies in the Indo-Pacific region, should closely cooperate and continue to strengthen special solidarity among like-minded countries.
The two leaders welcomed the development of their partnership beyond traditional economic cooperation to include defense, defense industry, supply chain, and economic security sectors, and agreed to further expand cooperation in these areas based on the strong trust between the two countries.
President Yoon emphasized the willingness of Korean companies to participate in Australia's ongoing frigate acquisition project and requested Australia's interest. The Royal Australian Navy is pursuing a project to acquire 11 multi-purpose frigates as part of its military modernization efforts.
