Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Conduct 'Comprehensive Inspection' of Food Stalls Around 36 Festival Sites in the Province
The Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police Unit will conduct a comprehensive crackdown on food vendors around 36 autumn festival sites in the province starting from the 14th.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Special Judicial Police announced on the 11th that from the 14th of this month until the 8th of next month, they will visit 36 autumn festival sites across the province, including the Luna Bit Festival in Hwaseong City, to conduct pre-inspections of food vendors around the festival areas.
To this end, the Special Judicial Police formed a special investigation team of 48 members.
The main inspection items include ▲ tampering or falsification of measuring devices used by food sales businesses ▲ false labeling of the origin of products ▲ management and storage of products past their consumption date, among others.
According to the current "Measurement Act," violations such as tampering with measuring devices or using falsified measuring devices for the purpose of altering measurement values are punishable by imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine of up to 30 million KRW. Additionally, under the Food Sanitation Act, manufacturing, processing, cooking, selling, subdividing, transporting, displaying, or storing products or food ingredients past their consumption date is punishable by imprisonment of up to 3 years or a fine. Violations of food preservation standards and specifications can result in imprisonment of up to 5 years or a fine of up to 50 million KRW. Under the Origin Labeling Act, false or misleading labeling of origin can lead to imprisonment of up to 7 years or a fine of up to 100 million KRW.
The Special Judicial Police will provide business owners with informational notices on types of illegal activities and also guide them to a hazard 'hotline' to eradicate unlawful acts.

Ki Do, head of the Special Judicial Police, stated, "We will conduct inspections on popular foods at local autumn festivals to ensure that safe food is supplied to visitors," adding, "We plan to strictly punish illegal activities that may threaten food safety in accordance with relevant laws."
