Preparation for Iraq War Yongin Mir Stadium
Securing Temporary Parking Lots and Operating Shuttle Buses
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 8th that it plans to implement traffic safety measures for the '2026 FIFA North and Central America World Cup Asia Third Qualifier' match between South Korea and Iraq, which will be held at Yongin Mir Stadium in Samga-dong, Cheoin-gu at 8 p.m. on the 15th.
The city expects the 37,000-seat stadium to be fully occupied for the first men's national football team A-match held in Yongin and plans to make thorough preparations to prevent traffic congestion and safety accidents. To this end, the city formed a task force (TF) team led by the Director of the Education, Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau and established detailed measures in five areas: transportation, traffic control, and safety.

According to the measures, only pre-registered vehicles such as those of players and related personnel will be allowed to enter the parking lot inside Mir Stadium on the day of the match to minimize congestion on nearby roads, and general vehicle access to the stadium will be restricted.
The city has also prepared 6,534 parking spaces at seven temporary parking lots, including City Hall (1,388 spaces) and Myongji University (800 spaces), and in consultation with the Korea Football Association, will operate 20 shuttle buses running back and forth every 20 minutes between City Hall and Myongji University to Mir Stadium. The shuttles will operate from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the day of the match.
Spectators using the Masung IC on the Yeongdong Expressway are asked to park their vehicles at Everland's third parking lot (3,000 spaces) and then travel from Jeondae-Everland Station on the Yongin Light Rail to Samga Station. It takes about 15 minutes to walk from Samga Station to Mir Stadium.
Other temporary parking lots include Yongin Office of Education (100 spaces), Tow Truck Storage (200 spaces), Ace Dongbaek Tower (620 spaces, paid), and Daewoo Frontier Valley (426 spaces, paid).
Buses and the light rail will also operate with increased frequency on the day of the match. Six metropolitan buses?5000, 5001, 5001-1, 5003, 5005, and 5600?heading from Seoul to Yongin (Samga Station and Mir Stadium) will each run one additional trip between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. before the match starts. After the match ends, from 10 p.m. until the last bus, five metropolitan buses?5000, 5001, 5003, 5005, and 5600?will also each run one additional trip heading to Seoul.
City buses on major routes 10, 10-5, 66, and 66-4, which run from key areas such as Suwon Station, Giheung Station, Korean Folk Village, and Cheoin-gu Office to Samga Station or Mir Stadium, will each operate two additional trips before and after the match, increasing the total city bus operations from 58 to 66 trips.
To facilitate convenient use of the metropolitan transportation network after the match, the city will operate four charter buses connecting Mir Stadium to Dongcheon Station on the Shinbundang Line. These charter buses will depart four times from the bus stop opposite Mir Stadium starting at 10 p.m., allowing passengers to catch the last Shinbundang Line train to Seoul (at 12:11 a.m. the next day) from Dongcheon Station.
The Yongin Light Rail will also shorten its vehicle intervals. Normally operating every 4 minutes between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and every 10 minutes between 10 p.m. and midnight, the light rail will run at intervals of 2 minutes and 15 seconds. To achieve this, the city plans to deploy 27 of the 30 vehicles, excluding reserve vehicles.
To prevent safety accidents due to congestion, the city will deploy 23 safety personnel at Samga Station, Chodang Station, Yongin City Hall Station, Jeondae-Everland Station, and Giheung Station, and 50 safety personnel between Samga Station and Mir Stadium and between Mir Stadium and Chodang Station to ensure pedestrian safety.
Yisang-il, Mayor of Yongin, said, "Since the men's football match between Korea and Iraq on the 15th is a major event held in Yongin for the first time, we are paying special attention to traffic and safety issues," and added, "Above all, the cooperation of spectators is important, so we ask that you use public transportation as much as possible."
