Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) announced on the 8th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Yangju City and the Gyeonggi Environmental Energy Promotion Agency at its new office in Gwanggyo, Suwon, to establish the Eunnam General Industrial Complex as the first carbon-neutral practice industrial complex in northern Gyeonggi.
The Eunnam General Industrial Complex, jointly promoted by GH and Yangju City, is a project to develop 992,000㎡ of industrial facility land in the Eunhyeon-myeon area of Yangju City, with completion targeted for 2027. Groundbreaking took place in February last year.
According to the agreement, GH will be responsible for applying renewable energy solutions, site review, and establishing (revising) the industrial complex plan to realize carbon neutrality in the Eunnam General Industrial Complex. Yangju City will handle permits and administrative support for the use of renewable energy power facilities. The Gyeonggi Environmental Energy Promotion Agency will actively cooperate in consulting on renewable energy business models and providing technical support.
Kim Se-yong, president of GH, stated, "Through the creation of the first carbon-neutral practice industrial complex in northern Gyeonggi, we will strive to build a sustainable eco-friendly industrial complex model that responds to the climate change crisis and enhances national competitiveness."

Meanwhile, greenhouse gas emissions from domestic industrial complexes account for as much as 76.8% of total emissions in the industrial sector. Although each industrial complex is exploring various ways to reduce carbon emissions, progress remains stagnant due to tenant companies' reluctance to install solar panels and physical limitations in producing eco-friendly energy.
