Korea Zinc Starts Full Operation of McIntyre Wind Farm in Australia: "Fruits of Renewable Energy Business"
Australian Subsidiary Arc Energy Invests 30% Stake
Accelerating Renewable Energy Project Plans
Korea Zinc announced on the 8th that its Australian subsidiary Arc Energy's equity-invested McIntyre Wind Farm began its first operation on the 4th.
The wind farm is being developed and constructed by the Spanish renewable energy company Acciona and is located in Queensland, Australia. It is the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere, including Australia, with a total capacity of 923.4 MW upon completion (enough to supply electricity to 600,000 households). This time, the first electricity was generated through the partial operation of 27 wind turbines in the first phase. The generation capacity of the 27 turbines is 154 MW.
The initially generated electricity will be supplied to the Australian electricity market through the Queensland power grid. The McIntyre Wind Farm project is progressing according to the plan to operate all 162 turbines by the third quarter of 2025, starting with this first operation.
Arc Energy invested 753 million Australian dollars (approximately 670 billion KRW) in the McIntyre Wind Farm in April and secured a 30% stake. Some of the electricity produced here will be supplied to the SMC smelter (Sun Metal) located in Townsville, Queensland, accelerating green metal production through achieving RE100.
Furthermore, starting with this power supply, Korea Zinc's Australian business aims to reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the realization of the renewable energy business plan, one pillar of the future new business 'Troika Drive' currently underway.

A Korea Zinc official said, "The McIntyre Wind Farm is one of the large-scale renewable energy projects following the 125 MW solar power plant located within SMC, and now its results are becoming visible. The current management of Korea Zinc will continue the renewable energy and green hydrogen projects, which were started after long consideration, without any setbacks according to the original plan, as they have done so far."
