This year’s maintenance sections include four areas in Sinwol-dong, where 1,625 utility poles, 277 communication poles, and a total of 190 km of overhead cables will be maintained. In cooperation with seven organizations including Korea Electric Power Corporation and broadcasting and telecommunications operators, the district plans to complete tasks such as dismantling abandoned and unused lines, repairing sagging electric and communication wires, organizing service lines, and maintaining excessively installed broadcasting and communication facilities by the end of the year.
In addition, the district was selected earlier this year for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s pilot project on ‘Service Line Sharing’ and will work to create a pleasant street environment.
‘Service Line Sharing’ is a project that installs shared boxes and shared distributors on utility poles and building rooftops to integrate communication lines connecting from utility poles to buildings into a single line, preventing cable clutter.
The district has completed on-site inspections of 108 multi-family buildings in the pilot areas of Mok 1-dong and Sinjeong 2-dong and plans to start construction from this month.
Disorderly tangled overhead cables not only spoil the city’s aesthetics but also pose a risk of falling due to strong winds, directly affecting residents’ safety. The district prioritizes areas urgently needing improvement through annual surveys of maintenance zones and has maintained a total of 450 km of overhead cables over the past five years.
