Ulsan City Selected for 2025 Signboard Improvement Project... Secures 500 Million Won in National Funding
Junggu Guyeokjeon Market and Namgu Kim Yushin Street Transform into Attractive Streets
Ulsan City has secured 500 million KRW in national funding as Jung-gu Guyeokjeon Market and Nam-gu Kim Yusin Street were selected for the "2025 Signboard Improvement Project" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The signboard improvement project aims to create beautiful landscapes and a pleasant urban environment by replacing signboards with ones that harmonize with the unique characteristics of each region.
Rather than simply replacing signboards, the project aims to create pleasant streets by having local governments and resident councils work together to develop small and attractive signboard designs that reflect the features of the area and businesses.
With this selection, Ulsan City will invest a total project cost of 620 million KRW, including 300 million KRW in national funding, to remove old signboards from 113 businesses along a 380-meter section of Jung-gu Guyeokjeon Market and install 133 new signboards.
Additionally, for Nam-gu Kim Yusin Street, a total of 315 million KRW, including 200 million KRW in national funding, will be used to remove old signboards from 53 businesses along a 310-meter section of Sinjeong 3-dong Kim Yusin Street and install 113 new signboards.
The project is scheduled to begin in January 2025 and be completed by the end of 2025.
In particular, Ulsan City and each district plan to cooperate with local residents and design experts to improve the signboards with designs that reflect the region's history and culture and highlight the individuality of each business.
A city official stated, "We will do our best to promote the project so that the old and disorderly signboards can be improved into unique and beautiful ones, enhancing Ulsan City's appeal and contributing to the revitalization of the local economy."
Since 2012, Ulsan City has been continuously selected as a target area for the signboard improvement project. The city completed the Dong-gu Mipo 1-gil project in 2022 and the Dong-gu Myeongdeok Village project in 2023, and is currently promoting the Samho Gopchang Street signboard improvement project this year.
