National Health Insurance Service Buleulgyeong Branch Establishes Cooperative System with Busan Consumer Organizations
Promoting Current Issues Such as Proper Medical Use and Tobacco Lawsuits
The Busan Ulsan Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters of the National Health Insurance Service (Director Choi Deokgeun) held a meeting with Busan consumer organizations on the 30th to discuss major issues facing the organization.
During the meeting, key issues such as the Service's appeal in the tobacco lawsuit for the protection of citizens' health rights and the soundness of the health insurance fund, proper medical use (wise choices), and the introduction of special judicial police were shared, and a wide range of opinions from consumer organizations were heard.
In particular, regarding the ongoing tobacco lawsuit, there was an in-depth discussion on the product liability and general torts of tobacco companies, reinforcing the perception that tobacco companies are responsible for the harms of smoking.
Regarding proper medical use, the Service provided information on initiatives for the public, such as proper medical service utilization, medication use, and self-health management, to prevent health risks from duplicate or excessive medical use and medication, and to minimize the waste of medical resources.
After the meeting, a joint campaign was held with the heads of consumer organizations on Youth Street in Deokcheon-dong, Buk-gu, Busan, to promote 'wise medical use' and the 'progress of the Service's tobacco lawsuit appeal' to local residents.
