Gyeonggi-do to Hold 'Youth Basic Income' Policy Forum on the 27th
Gyeonggi Province will meet with officials from 31 cities and counties to prepare improvement measures for the Youth Basic Income.
On the 26th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will hold a "Policy Discussion Meeting between the Province and Cities/Counties" on the 27th at Ladravi Art & Resort in Icheon City.
The Youth Basic Income is a policy that provides 1 million won in local currency to 24-year-old youth in the province regardless of income. Previously, the province held two policy discussion meetings on the Youth Basic Income on the 23rd of last month and the 21st of this month, listening to various opinions from youth regarding expanding the eligible age, conditions, and usage restrictions.
The Youth Basic Income project has positive effects by supporting youth at the age when they most need assistance for social advancement and future preparation. However, it has been criticized for the large budget allocation for a specific age group, income-independent payments, and the fact that usage is mainly concentrated on consumption activities.
