Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is supporting free influenza vaccinations primarily for vulnerable health groups in preparation for this winter's flu outbreak.
The target groups are high-risk individuals prone to respiratory diseases, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with severe disabilities. In Gwangjin-gu, 87,962 people fall into these categories, and sequential vaccinations began on the 20th of this month.
This vaccination uses a 'quadrivalent vaccine' that provides protection against four types of viruses. It includes all strains recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and can be administered simultaneously with the COVID-19 vaccine.
The vaccination period lasts until April 30 of next year. However, to ensure smooth progress without crowding, the vaccination schedule is operated differently according to the target group.
First, children aged 6 months to 13 years who require two doses started receiving vaccinations from the 20th. On October 2, vaccinations will be given to children receiving their first flu vaccine dose and pregnant women.
The elderly vaccinations are conducted by age groups. They will begin on the 11th of next month for those aged 75 and older (born before 1949), on the 15th for those aged 70 to 74 (born 1950?1954), and on the 18th for those aged 65 to 69 (born 1955?1959).
Additionally, people with severe disabilities (grades 1 to 3) and medical aid recipients aged 14 to 64 can receive vaccinations from October 14 to November 29.
Vaccinations are available at 160 specialized commissioned medical institutions in Gwangjin-gu. When visiting, bring identification and verification documents such as a disability welfare card. Detailed information can be found on the Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center website or the Vaccination Helper website.
