Art Daegu Opens at EXCO, Showcasing 3,000 Renowned Artworks from Korea and Abroad
‘Art Daegu 2024’ will open in grand style at EXCO on the 26th. The fair will run from the opening ceremony and preview on this day until the 29th, promising art enthusiasts an unforgettable experience.
This year, Art Daegu aims not only to invigorate the art market but also to present a vision for the development of the art market, which is emerging as a new investment destination for the MZ generation. Domestic and international galleries will participate, showcasing around 3,000 diverse art pieces. Notably, leading contemporary art galleries from the United States, India, the United Kingdom, France, and Japan will visit Daegu to meet local collectors.
This fair will feature three-dimensional paper-cut sculptures by British artist Alexander Koza, as well as works by Tanzanian artist Hendrick Lilanga, who captures the bright and joyful aspects of Africa with vibrant colors. Additionally, works by globally renowned artists such as David Surman, Marcello, Alessandro Paglia, Starsky Brines, Wakaru, and Murakami Takashi will also be exhibited.
Among Korean artists, works by renowned figures such as Kim Kulim, Lee Ufan, Kwak Hoon, Kim Taeho, Lee Bae, Kim Byungjong, Choi Geumpa, and Kim Sehan will be displayed alongside next-generation blue-chip artists.
A variety of special exhibitions are also planned. The ‘Shin Hyunkook Special Exhibition,’ featuring a senior figure in Korean contemporary art, will showcase works themed around the ‘Forest of Life,’ conveying the beauty of life through the presence of grand mountains. The sculpture special exhibition by artists Kim Jingyeom and Lim Younggyu will present large-scale sculptures such as ‘Companion,’ ‘Encounter,’ and ‘From the Light.’ The international special exhibition will feature unique works by globally acclaimed artists, including Roman Romanyshyn from Ukraine, known for his intricate copperplate prints, as well as Lugis Kugil from Indonesia, Watnacho Thungateja from Thailand, and Josef Werder from Germany.
During the event, a docent tour program will be available, where professional guides will explain the artworks. The docent tour will be held twice on the 26th and three times daily from the 27th to the 29th, with on-site registration available for each time slot.
Choi Wonki, CEO of Art Daegu, stated, “Art Daegu will do its best to present the vision and direction of the Daegu art market, to vitalize the local art culture, and further, to lead the internationalization of regional art and culture.”
The admission fee for Art Daegu 2024 is 15,000 won for the general public.
