AWOT is an Asia-focused logistics company headquartered in Guangzhou, China, operating 50 global branches overseas.
The China-origin e-commerce market has rapidly grown at an average annual rate of 23% over the past five years. The two companies saw an opportunity in this market and decided to establish the joint venture. After signing a memorandum of understanding for "mutual logistics business activation" last November, the joint venture was finally launched this month.
The joint venture will attract express delivery volumes originating from China and operate fulfillment businesses within China, while AWOT will handle transportation volumes to Korea and Japan. Hanjin will manage customs clearance and transportation within Korea and Japan. Additionally, they plan to expand services to Southeast Asia and the Americas in the future to foster the logistics business.
In particular, they will gradually develop and promote country-specific e-commerce businesses originating from China. They plan to actively attract volumes from large distribution companies within China and conduct customs clearance and transportation businesses by utilizing Hanjin's Incheon Airport GDC, overseas express customs clearance centers, and the Japan corporation.
