HD Hyundai Hope Foundation Appoints Former Minister of Employment Lee Gi-kwon as Inaugural Chairman
Scholarship Foundation for Bereaved Families of Major Accident Victims at Shipyards
HD Hyundai Hope Foundation has completed its establishment procedures and is set to officially launch support projects for the families of victims of major accidents at shipyards.
On the 2nd, HD Hyundai Hope Foundation held a board meeting at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Dong-gu, Ulsan, where it finalized its future business plans. Established as the first scholarship foundation in Korea dedicated to the families of victims of major shipyard accidents, it was initiated in February following the proposal of HD Hyundai Chairman Kwon Oh-gap, who emphasized the company’s social responsibility as the world’s leading shipbuilder.
HD Hyundai Hope Foundation has obtained approval for establishment from the Ministry of Employment and Labor and completed corporate registration, as well as finalized its board composition. The inaugural chairman appointed is Lee Ki-kwon, former Minister of Employment and Labor. Chairman Lee is a top expert in the field of employment and labor, having served 35 years at the Ministry of Employment and Labor. HD Hyundai Chairman Kwon Oh-gap, who donated 100 million KRW of personal funds, serves as the honorary chairman.
The foundation plans to begin with a scholarship support program for children of families affected by major accidents in the second half of this year, and expand its scope in the first half of 2025 to include living expenses and medical support for bereaved families, as well as legal aid services.
