Son of Famous Spanish Actor Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Killing Same-Sex Partner in Thailand
The son of a famous Spanish actor was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his same-sex partner at a popular tourist destination in Thailand.
On the 29th (local time), according to foreign media including the AP News, the Koh Samui District Court in Thailand sentenced Daniel Sancho (29), the son of Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho (48), to life imprisonment.
Initially, the court sentenced him to death, but it is reported that the sentence was reduced to life imprisonment considering Daniel Sancho's cooperation during the trial.
Last August, Daniel was vacationing on Koh Phangan Island, a resort area in Thailand, with Arieta, a 44-year-old plastic surgeon from Colombia.
Later, Daniel Sancho killed Arieta, dismembered the body, and disposed of it on land and at sea.
During the trial, Daniel Sancho claimed, "Arieta tried to sexually assault me, which led to a fight, and during the struggle, he fell, hit his head on the bathtub, lost consciousness, and died," but the court did not accept this claim.
Thailand still sentences certain crimes, including intentional murder, to death, but executions are not carried out. The last execution was in 2018.
