“Most Happy When With Students” Eyes Welling Up
Wando Office of Education announced on the morning of the 29th that it held a retirement ceremony for Kim Jeong-seon, the Wando Superintendent of Education, attended by about 150 executives and staff in the main conference room.
The retirement ceremony began with an introduction of Superintendent Kim’s major career and achievements, followed by the presentation of a success plaque and souvenirs, bouquet presentation, farewell speech, retirement address, and commemorative photo session.

View original imageSuperintendent Kim Jeong-seon, concluding 40 years of service in education, began his teaching career in 1985 at Wando Gogeum High School, served as principal of Jindo Industrial High School and as a superintendent in charge of future talent at the provincial Office of Education, and was appointed as the Superintendent of Wando Office of Education in 2023.
Superintendent Kim promoted specialized island region book education linking village libraries and school libraries, and signed an agreement with Wando County to revitalize island humanities education.
In particular, at the ‘2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo,’ he attracted attention by operating an onboard reading humanities school using the training ship of Wando Fisheries High School.
In his retirement address, Superintendent Kim tearfully said, "I was happiest when working as a teacher with students."
He added, “I am retiring after fulfilling my duties as superintendent for one year and six months in the rich and warm Wando. Although I did my best during my tenure, looking back, there are many regrets. Wando, where I started as a teacher, is a precious place that laid the foundation of my life, and the experience of working here has been the most valuable time in my life.”

He continued, “Although insufficient, I have worked hard to nurture talent and did my best for educational policies that give dreams and hope. Even after leaving public office for the beloved Wando education family, I promise to continue striving for Wando and Jeonnam education.”
